Sami is the first town that you see comming by boat from Patra and the main port of Kefalonia Island. Sarrounded by green mountains in the background of a sea gulf, sami is a safe harbor and a significant milestone for many destinations.
Sami is the ideal place to settle and organize your excursions. Either you have a car or not, you will find so many things that are worth to pay a visit. First of all, you will find a variety of shops, super markets, bars, caffe and taverns serving local wine and excellent fresh fish. Everything you need is just a few minutes away. Sami also has a Health Center operating 24hrs in any case of emergency, a post office and a bank.
On the hill above the town, the excavations continue and bring to light many important discoveries. Ruins of an ancient castle (Paliokastro) and the ancient Acropolis kyatis, where is located the monastery of St.Fanenton.
The nearby village of Karavomylos is probably the most peaceful and beautiful place of the island, featuring an absolutely magnificent lake, with ducks and geese swimming beside the 'Old Mill'. The road connecting the two villages is amazing for walking about and let your self gaze at the stars while listening to the sea.
The famous and 'must see' Mellisani Lake is a few meters above Karavomylos, is a jewel of nature that impresses the visitor.
Sami is located 9 km away from the picturesque harbour of Agia Efimia with the traditional restaurants and the magnificent landscape. You will find Agia Paraskevi and Agia Efimia Beaches, but also many charming little pebble and sandy bays across Sami΄s coastline.
From the other side of village of Sami, you will find Antisamos Beach, a picturesque place with indescribable water. A wild scenery and a landscape that will blow your mind. Antisamos beach is full organised beach with restaurants, water sports and sun beds. You can also get there from various walking trails throughout the local mountains, all of them offering an endless shade that seem to come out from a fairy tale.
It is the ideal base and starting point for discovering the beauties of the island.
